Dan’s journey into lighting design began as a decade long adventure in renovating and flipping houses in his hometown of Montreal; where making lamps developed from his desire to learn something new, while continuing to tinker with small electrical and carpentry projects in between home demolitions.
Coming from a background in playing music and a long career in film and television production, Dan is fuelled by his passion to turn small creative ideas into larger tangible realities. He considers his journey through lighting design to be as much about the curiosity and excitement of new discoveries as it is about lighting and lamps, believing that the creative and artistic process is not just about THINGS, and how they LOOK, but rather about EXPERIENCES, and how they make you FEEL. |

Combining locally sourced premium hardwood bases and quality hardware components, our lamps deliver warm ambient light, and a refined industrial aesthetic that inspire the work, repose, curiosity and conversation of those around them.
Attention to detail is paramount to the design process - ensuring that each block showcases the finest grain features of the wood slab from which they came, through to the antique colours and styling of the fabric woven lamp cords, the shine of the polished nickel hardware, the texture of the dimmer switches and the warmth of the tungsten filament bulbs; these tactile elements add rich layers to your interaction with the product, and it's because of these details that we are certain you will enjoy your East Van Light for many years to come.
All of our lights are UL Certified, and proudly handcrafted in small batches at our studio in East Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
