Tell Us Your Story

So here is a little info about my story. I almost lost my wife last year. She had a brain malformation which was blocking the flow of the spinal fluid to her body. It was 50/50 chance of survival without surgery and 50/50 chance of survival with the surgery. I was at a crossroads with dealing with the fact that there was a real possibility that I was going to be a single dad.

We made the decision to do the surgery because she got to a point where she could not function. Paralysis would set in at times for 30 minutes or she would black out and fall. This meant she couldn't do anything, not even hold her own children for fear of dropping them. She said she couldn't live this way, so we did the surgery. It was only supposed to take two hours, but it didn't. They called me 2 ½ hrs in and said that they had run into complications. Five hours into the surgery, they called back and said that I needed to go to the chapel and prepare myself for the worst. They could not wake her up. Two hours after that she awoke.

I was in recovery when I got the call that my daughter, who was 16 months old at the time, had come down with a bacterial infection and was being rushed to the emergency children's hospital. They said that if the antibiotics did not work, it could mean big trouble and I could lose her.

My whole world was upside down. I was losing everything in a span of only hours. But 24 hours later, Haylee pulled through and Beverly was at the other hospital in full recovery mode. I'm sending the pics of them in the next email -- one of the surgery for Beverly, one of Haylee in the children's hospital, and then one of them both together. They both survived! Now you will see why I have been blessed, and want a necklace to express just that.
